Merrell Istanbul Ultra 5K Team Race is a social and dynamic course starting in Kemerburgaz, consisting of natural terrain, forest roads and flowing sections, designed to highlight teamwork and collective movement.

Merrell Istanbul Ultra 5K Team Race is designed to offer a shared race experience for friends, corporate teams and runners who enjoy moving forward together toward a common goal.

GENERAL RACE RULES


Important Notice:
All rule updates will be announced on the official event website under the “Race Rules” page. Participants are responsible for regularly following these rules until race day.
  • The entire course must be completed within the time limits and conditions specified for each category. Otherwise, the race will be considered incomplete.
  • Any runner who does not pass through one of the control points on the route will be considered to have withdrawn from the race.
  • Food supplements, drinking water, and hot water will be provided to participants at designated control points.
  • Water supply along the course will be provided by the organization at specified intervals and in sufficient quantities. Each runner is responsible for taking and consuming enough water.
  • Failure to carry mandatory equipment during the race may result in a +10 minute time penalty or disqualification. Organization officials and referees have the right to inspect mandatory equipment and bags at any time during the race. Athletes who do not carry mandatory equipment for any reason or who violate race rules will be disqualified, and no refunds will be issued.
  • Running with pets is prohibited.
  • Participants aged 14–17 may compete in the 5K course with parental consent. Participants must be at least 18 years old to compete in the 15K, 30K, and 60K courses.
  • Participants must present valid identification and sign a waiver in order to receive their race kits. Race kits will only be delivered to the participant themselves; delivery to third parties is not permitted.
  • Bib number and race kit distribution will take place on the dates specified in the “Kit Distribution Program” determined by the organization. The race kit includes a bib number, a bag, and a timing chip.
  • Littering outside designated areas at the main event area and control points will result in a 2-hour time penalty for the first offense and disqualification for repeated offenses.
  • For participants under the age of 18, a parental waiver form is mandatory.
  • Persistent or disturbing behavior toward other runners may result in disqualification. The race director has sole authority to make this decision.
  • To participate, the applicant must complete the required registration form and pay the participation fee for the selected category. Bib numbers must be collected from the registration desk during the hours specified in the program.
  • Participants competing in the 30K and 60K categories must submit a valid athlete license by 06 September 2026, or a medical report obtained within the last 6 months. Documents must be uploaded to the system during registration or presented during kit collection.
  • A medical report or athlete license is not required for the 5K and 15K categories.
  • Athletes aged 65 and over may participate with an ECG and a cardiologist-approved medical report.
  • No refunds will be issued for inability to participate or registration cancellation. Participants unable to participate due to health reasons may receive a 70% refund if they submit a medical report by 17 August at 17:00.
  • Registrations for each course will be closed once quotas are filled, without waiting for the final registration date. All registrations will close on 1 September 2026 at 23:59.
  • The deadline for course changes is 17 August 2026 at 17:00. Registration transfers are not allowed. Transfers to fully booked courses are not permitted. Each participant may change categories only once.
  • Support crew is not allowed on the 5K and 15K courses.
  • Participants competing in the 30K and 60K courses may receive support at all control points.
  • Support may only be provided within 100 meters before and after designated control points. Support outside these areas is prohibited.
  • Supporters must not obstruct chip readings, transitions, or nutrition services of other runners. Violation of this rule will result in disqualification of the supported runner.
  • Unauthorized support outside designated control points in the 30K and 60K courses is prohibited and will result in disqualification.
  • Listening to music with headphones is prohibited in the 15K, 30K, and 60K courses. (Bone-conduction headphones are permitted.)
  • Use of poles is allowed. Runners who start the race with poles must finish the race with them. Otherwise, a +60 minute time penalty will be applied.
  • Race results are calculated based on:
    Gun Time for the general classification,
    Net Time for age group classifications.

  • Objections to results must be submitted within 2 hours after race completion.
  • The organization team and referees reserve the right to disqualify a runner at any time if they observe a health-related risk.
  • Participants who do not possess the mandatory equipment after pre-race checks will not be allowed to start. Bib numbers will not be issued to participants who fail to present mandatory equipment during kit collection.
  • Participants must have completed an adequate preparation period. Each runner will sign a consent form accepting full responsibility for participating in the race voluntarily.
  • Each runner’s finish time will be determined by adding any applicable penalties. In case of objections, the organization’s records will be final. Arrival times at each control point will also be recorded.
  • Professional search and rescue teams and medical staff will be on duty throughout the race. Ambulances and medical teams will be stationed at designated points along the course. Medical staff may unilaterally disqualify a runner at any point if deemed medically necessary.
  • The race route and race-day management are the responsibility of the race director. The route will be shared with runners before the race via the event website as a map and GPS data. Due to weather conditions, epidemics, force majeure, or other factors, the route may be changed, the race postponed, or canceled at the race director’s discretion. Final information will be shared during the pre-race briefing.
  • A Drop Bag area will be available at Kemerburgaz Urban Forest on 5 September 2026 at 06:00 for runners to leave their belongings.
  • No refunds will be issued to runners who are disqualified for failing to comply with the mandatory equipment requirements or any of the rules stated above.
  • Participants may withdraw from the race at any point but must inform race officials to be officially withdrawn.
  • Participants are required to collect their race kits before the race start time. No kit distribution or shipping will take place after the event.
  • Participants must finish the race within the designated cut-off time for their course.
  • Runners who fail to reach control points within the specified cut-off times will be disqualified and transported back to the event area.
  • Paralympic athletes may compete free of charge only in the 5K category and are eligible for ranking. Upon emailing a valid paralympic report to info@istanbulultra.com.tr, registration procedures will be initiated.


Disqualification
  • Failure to comply with the rules set by the organization before or during the race; missing control points; littering outside designated areas; deviating from the official route by taking shortcuts; not wearing the bib number and timing chip as instructed; refusing inspections by medical staff or the race director; or abandoning a runner in need of assistance will be considered rule violations. The organization reserves the right to immediately disqualify the runner.
  • Failure to carry any mandatory equipment during the race or refusal to submit equipment for inspection will result in a +10 minute time penalty per missing item. If the deficiency poses a risk to the athlete’s health, the organization reserves the right to directly disqualify the runner.
  • No refunds will be issued to disqualified participants.


Emergency Contact and Athlete Responsibilities
  • Emergency contact person and contact details are collected during registration. Participants declare that this information is accurate and up to date.
  • In the event of an emergency during the race, the organization has the right to contact the emergency person declared during registration.
  • Participants are responsible for keeping their mobile phones switched on, sufficiently charged, and accessible throughout the race.
  • Participants are advised to save the emergency contact numbers provided by the organization on their phones.
  • The organization cannot be held responsible for delays caused by inability to reach the athlete or the declared emergency contact person.
  • Participants are personally responsible for any consequences arising from incorrect, incomplete, or outdated emergency contact information.

All runners who register for the race are deemed to have fully accepted all race rules.

5K TEAM RACE CATEGORY GUIDE


  • Corporate teams must consist of a minimum of 10 participants.
  • There are no age or gender restrictions in the 5K Team Race.
  • Team rankings are determined by calculating the average time of the fastest three runners in each team.
  • A podium ceremony will be held for the top 5 teams.
  • No medical report or athlete license is required for the 5K and 15K categories.
  • No pacers or support crews are allowed at checkpoints for the 5K and 15K races.
  • In the 5K Team Race category, overall rankings will be determined based on the combined times of the fastest three runners from each team, and the top 5 teams will be classified.
  • Participants registered for the 5K Team Race will run on the same course as the 5K Fun Run and will be classified in both categories.
  • A podium ceremony will be held for the top 5 teams in the 5K Team Race, and the most crowded team will receive the “Largest Team” trophy.
  • General race rules are the same as those of the 5K Fun Run.

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT


For safety and health reasons, the organization reserves the right to conduct mandatory equipment checks and to apply penalties or disqualification in case of missing equipment.
Mandatory equipment will be checked during race kit distribution and at checkpoints (CP) along the course. Participants with missing mandatory equipment will not receive their race kit.


60K & 30K Mandatory Equipment List

  • Light windbreaker or long-sleeve top
  • Power bank
  • Waterproof jacket or raincoat (May be made mandatory depending on weather conditions)

Use of Poles
  • Poles may be used and must be carried throughout the race. They may not be left on the course or at CPs.
  • Awards and classification evaluation depend on starting and finishing the race with poles.
  • A race started with poles must be finished with poles; otherwise, a +60-minute time penalty will be applied.

Baggage Deposit and Drop Bag
  • Drop bag (baggage deposit) collection for all courses will take place at the start area on race day and will be returned only from the same location at the end of the race.
  • Responsibility for items left in the baggage area on race day belongs to the participant; leaving valuables is not recommended.
